Understanding health coverage transition and benefits

Your child's health coverage and benefits are likely to change in adulthood. If your child is covered under a family insurance plan, verify continued eligibility - or make a plan to transition to student, employer or other coverage.

If health coverage is a new topic for your child, describe how it helps to pay for doctor visits so you don't have to pay for everything yourself. Introduce terms such as premium, deductible and co-pay. If your child will be transitioning to a new plan, encourage questions and find answers together.

Together with your child, use the health coverage interactive tool on DB101 to review which health care options might be best.

The health care transition readiness assessment is a questionnaire that can identify what your child already knows about their health and areas where help may be needed.
