Medicare: Overview

Medicare is a national public health insurance program. When you work, you pay Medicare taxes. If you or your spouse pays enough in Medicare taxes, you will qualify for Medicare at age 65 or when you meet certain other conditions. If you have low income and low assets, you may be able to get help paying for Medicare.
